Chasing Toucans Chasing Toucans

“I’m going to back to my roots”
9.1.07
Today I was with the veterinary team, which going way way back is where my interest in animals developed. I wont say started because that was at a stables and to this day I still love being round horses. I ended up spending 7 years part time at a vets through my work experience at a stables.
I helped with all the routines including the feeding of 7 baby monkeys ( very very cute) and then cleaning & feeding which is very much like our nursery/holding room/hospital routine with only a few differences. Having being used to quite a tight time schedule at the castle I was working at my “usual” (everythings all ok no drama) pace and getting things done quite quickly. It was quite nice being back round primates although over the time I have forgotten the fascination they hold with necklaces, hair, clothes and that they have fingers (unlike birds!) which again go everywhere. Nothing is sacred so you end up with fingers up your nostrils in your ears, in your mouth, down your top in your pockets you name it!
Next was the bird room. I have a new friend in the form of a bay toucan. It just wants to play and as soon as it sees me it starts calling and the beak comes through the cage front. I think I’ve been associated with the person who pays attention and plays rather than thinks its going to bite so therefore I end up being constantly called at! It adores its beak being stroked and being stroked on the head to the stage of almost falling asleep.
I then helped with the operations that they had booked, helped go out on rounds with the vets and then help with last feed.
