Crazy gal
8.1.07
Well I had another day on the bird section so when I arrived I got greeted with a huge grin and got set the task of cleaning out. I got left to that whilst feeding & watering got done I then got moved to another “house”. After a quick coffee I was joined and we whizzed through the flights weeding & raking as we went. By mid afternoon we started last feed and then we were done and tidying plants etc judging by the big smile and “no no fini” we’d had a productive day! I can only compare to when I’ve had good work experience in the past that you don’t have to tell every little thing too it means you can keep an eye on what they are doing but also at the same time get all those annoying little jobs you’ve been meaning to do but never get round to doing. After a quick chat with the pelican keeper (Noo I think it’s a nickname but you never know!) who speaks a few words of English I think the general gist is I’M good! We have a good rapport going and although she only knows a few words of English we have lots of in jokes already!
Every time Noo see’s me I end up getting frantic waving a big grin and “crazy gal” comments. All the keepers seem to do a lot of play fighting which to be honest seems to be worldwide the more keepers I meet. There’s a maintenance guy Tiko who is aged 50+ and seems to be constantly patted on the head and fought with.
I found the internet café and managed to catch up on emails and set up an account at the café after much confusion. We then ended up going back to the zoo as there were about 150+ kids doing a night tour around the zoo. It’s very very hyper but really good fun despite not knowing or having a clue what was going on! We then went back to the zoo educator’s house along with 2 of the vets and 3 of the interns for pizza, bbq and more beer!
