Maireeisms,William and Light Sabers
I knew I shouldnt have unpacked as many ibuprofen tablets as I did. Ive used up all tht I packed by being good and taking 2 every 4 hours, it was worth it though because my eyelid and wrist have greatly reduced in size. In fact my wrist and hand are almost back to normal. The swelling had gone all over my wrist and was from my little finger to middle finger raised in a big semi circle. I was getting slightly concerned so I had ended up rattling with antibiotics, antihistamines and ibuprofen.
Well it appears the maireeisms are still here the fridge is dead or very near dying and I killed the jeep. Well.... the battery had died in it but I had been in it the night before which is never a good sign! Which is why there was no ranger last night. So after a cup of coffee I headed very carefully down to the lodge. Im running out of blister plasters and my calves dont want to work for the first half hour so its just aswell there is no traffic/people about first thing or else I dread to think what they think the toucan woman is upto some mad UK exercise first thing.
Corinho and the rest of the gang have `created` their own theme tune for me. Its along the lines of wonder woman but toucan woman. They find it very funny which it is but my only concern is that by the end of the stay there will be an outfit!! So after vthe toucanwoman singsong I had a bit of an office morning. Making sure people were getting emails and answering them aswell. The permit people have finally got in touch in spanish but I have plenty of people to translate for me. There is slight concern in the fact they have asked for a student to do an internship with me and that I may be asked to fund this. They are also asking how much poo do I want to take out the area? I dont have a quota of 4 tonne or anything! And how would they weigh it? Anyway I dont think that the poo is readily available. Outside the guides hut they have birds that raid the fruit trees and there is a lack of poo. No white streaks any where. I think that maybe all the insects and butterflies may well hoover it all given that its fruit etc. Which is a bit of a problem. I did think about creating a feed station using local fruits and seeds etc but I dont know where the Toucans regulary feed. So I dont think the man need worry about the quantity of poo im taking out the area. Picked up camera battery after it hd been on charge and went and photographed the Capi area. Saw and got pic of my first Caiman Croc and Tero (wadery bird) Temperature was up to 34 degrees today so limped back to camp. Was going to have lunch but no gas so couldnt even have a coffee. Its so hot here today Ive started putting rehydration powders in my water not because of tummy troubles but just because standing up makes your skin leak. Argentian tropical fruit juice is nice but nicer watered down and adding raspberry flavoured powders to it makes it even nicer somehow. So after a siesta I woke up to find out there appeared to hve been a storm I obviously slept through it but there was puddles so it must have been a British shower!
Corinho brought some tourists up to the camp that arrived today. So I have another presentation tommorrow night. It was getting so hot again that I decided to write diary up. Claudio scared the living Bejeezus out of me a bit later by suddenly jumping over the low wall which he found highly entertaining. Hes been learning english the last 2 weeks so conversations are limited but hes really intelligent and picks things up quickly. So I now hve gas, had a little chat with Claudio but couldnt find the spanish for storm. He borrowed my phrasebook and gave himself homework on asking the time, he was teaching me the spanish as I was teaching him the prounication of the English he grasped it quicker than me thats for sure! I showed him some of the photos from earlier and the jist of the conversation was that from the observation tower at the very top he can get signal for his phone and then he went saying good evening in spanish and english!
So my new found favourite thing to photo is glow bugs or fireflys no one picture is the same you get some that look like UFOs then some that look like laser beams. I also appear to have got a pet moth he likes walking along the sentances Im writing and probing the words with his antenaee, perhaps I should call him William after Shakespears love of words or Jeffery after one of my favourite authors!!
Before you all panic and think Ive lost the plot night times are so very boring, once its dark thats it just noise. For someone who has a very low boredom threshold thats not good news especially as the rangers dont finish till 21.30 thats 4 or 5 hours with noone to talk to or anything to do. Dusk time is cool you have these big moths that sound like light sabers from star wars and chasing fireflys dusk is a fun time. I have to say though Im not missing tv,traffic or friday night fight night noises just toast and Marmite and the ability to feel cold!!
I sent Greg shopping earlier because he was going to pick the tourists up so I was hoping he might have arrived with decent food but no show yet. So ready steady cook time. We have rice cereal tomatoe puree paw paw coffee salt onion sugar and some stock cubes and coffee whitener. Doubt Aiynslee could come up with anything either!!!!
